Resumen:
The study of metric and morphological variability of lithic artifacts has always been a topic of interest in Archaeology. In this regard, geometric morphometrics is a methodological tool of great value because allows the quantification of shape changes regardless of the original artifact size. The evaluation of the correlation of these changes with different metric variables or allometric reduction indexes allow us to test different indicators and explain the morphological variation. Previous studies have analyzed these changes by geometric morphometrics in a sample of 24 fishtail points from Uruguay. On this occasion, we will focus our analysis on a comparison of morphometric variations of these designs in a supra-regional scale, including samples from Pampa and Patagonia (Argentina). Since the geometric morphometric technique is based on images, our analysis is carried out from photographs or drawings in scale that have been published. We included complete projectile points and whole stem fragments. In this way, our goal is to assess the similarities and differences in size and shape of the fishtail points in a broad spatial scale, which may be related to differences in the life history of these instruments and with the strategies of land use.
