MFe2O4 with spinel structure are an important class of iron oxide materials which in naoparticle (NP) form have long been of scientific and technological interest. The magnetic characteristics of ferrite NPs, such as the mean magnetic moment and effective anisotropy, may be tuned adjusting the chemical identity of the M2+ ion, grains size and morphology, as well as the surface chemistry. IN this study, MFe2O4 (M = Fe, Co, Ni)NPs were synthesized by high-temperature decomposition of Fe(acac)3 and the corresponding M compound in the presence of a long chain alcohol. The morphology of the NPs was investigated by TEM and XRD, while the magnetic properties were studied by magnetization measurements as function of temperature and field, and by ac susceptibility measurements. In-field Mössbauer studies (120 kOe) were also presented.
