Resumen:
We are interested in understanding the mechanisms that maintain the balance between water loss through transpiration at the canopy level and the root´s capacity for water absorption and transport. Such balance is essential to the coordinated development of plants and to their appropriate response to environmental perturbations.?To experimentally modulate leaf transpiration we chose a series of Arabidopsis thaliana lines showing a range of transpiration rates due to genetic manipulation of the number of stomata on the leaf surface. These lines have abnormal function of one or two EPIDERMAL PATTERNING FACTOR (EPF) genes coding for secretory peptides that control guard cell differentiation
