Resumen:
Oily sludge produced from the accumulation of crude oil materials at the bottom of storage tanks is a hazardous waste. It contains different chemical compounds, including aliphatic hydrocarbons (AH) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), and other compounds of concern in environmental waste regulation.Although bioremediation is often used to treat different petrochemical wastes, their high toxicity could make it unfeasible. Chemical oxidation is an attractive strategy to solve this problem. Ours results indicate that the application of permanganate in batch reactors was an appropriate strategy to be use before biodegradation methods such as composting or bioaugmentation.
