Resumen:
Chemical modification of starch could lead to films withdifferent enhanced physicochemical and mechanicalcharacteristics (Pérez-Gallardo et al., 2012; Colivet andCarvalho, 2017). In this work, the effect ofcarboximethylation (CMS) and acid hydrolysis (HS) inthe mechanical properties of films obtained byextrusion followed by thermo-compression wereinvestigated. A film with equal concentration of bothmodified starches was also studied.Carboxymethylation and acid hydrolysis modificationsof cassava starch, even in low proportion, leads todifferences in the mechanical properties ofthermoplastic films obtained by extrusion and thermocompressed.Chemical modifications lead to differentcrystalline structure of films. This leads to lessplasticized films, with lower elongation at break buthigher stress at break and Young?s modulus.
