Resumen:
The fluorescence of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) or ions can be used for in situ detection and dose enhancement purposes in X-ray irradiation applications. This study is focused on the full integration of the chemical synthesis of silver nanoparticles suitable for dosimetry and radiology purposes with characteristics that can be exploited in radiotherapy and radiodiagnosis. A narrow size distribution and a compatible stabilizing agent is often desired in order to obtain homogeneous behaviours in nanoparticle suspension. For that purpose AgNPs were synthesized and used in Fricke gel dosimetry (FGD). Therefore, the main goal of this study was to synthetize AgNPs compatible with FGD and assess their potential as fluorescent agents for characteristic radiation detection, while studying the dose enhancement because of silver photoelectron emissions.
