Resumen:
A high association between Porphyria Cutanea Tarda (PCT) and HIV infection (15%) isfound in Argentina. Slight evidence exists about if PCT triggering in HIV patients is relatedto infection and/or therapy. Glutathione S-transferase (GST) is a member of Phase II drugmetabolizing system. Some genetic variants that alter GST activity affecting xenobioticslevels are of clinical importance: GSTT1 null, GSTM1 null and GSTP1 (rs1695, c.313A>G).The aim was to analyze the possible role of these polymorphisms in PCT/HIV association.A population of Control (no PCT, no HIV), HIV (no PCT), PCT and PCT-HIV werestudied. Analysis of GSTT1 null and GSTM1 null variants was performed by multiplexPCR. Genotyping of GSTP1 (rs1695, c.313A>G) variant was done by PCR-RFLP.For GSTT1, the homozygosis deletion frequencies were: 8.3% (Control), 6.7% (HIV),10.5% (PCT), 14.3% (PCT-HIV); the frequency of null allele in PCT-HIV was higher thanHIV group (p=0.075). For GSTM1, null genotype frequencies were: 41.7% (Control),53.3% (HIV), 36.8% (PCT), 32.1% (PCT-HIV), showing a significant minor value(p
