Resumen:
This poster presents a first attempt to apply data assimilation using the WRF-GSI-LETKF system to a mesoscale convective system (MCS) developed over central and north-eastern Argentina during November, 22th. This MCS corresponds to IOP08 (Severe, Upscale Growth handoff) of the RELAMPAGO field campaign.The results showed that the inclusion of observations with higher spatial and temporal resolution had a positive impact on the short range forecasts. Also, an important improvement was observed in the forecast of precipitation both in magnitude and spatial localization. In the near future, additional experiments will explore the impact of the analysis upon convective allowing forecasts. RELAMPAGO data will be essential to evaluate which observations produce larger impacts upon the analysis and short range forecast at the convective scale.
