Resumen:
The small-scale biorefineries are lower capital andlogistics costs, and lower inversion risk than those in large-scale ones, whichwould enable the labor occupation in rural areas. The aim of this study wasto assess the feasibility of a small-scale biorefinery for the production ofdifferent products from the spent liquor of sugarcane bagasse autohydrolysisand from the residual solid. Scenery I show the need of optimize high-energyconsumption processes. Scenery II marks an improvement in the IRR by thedecrease liquid-solid ratio in the pretreatment. Simultaneous production ofxylitol and pellets is an interesting option when processing more than 20,000ton per year of bagasse, whereas xylitol and ethanol production need to process50,000 ton per year to be rentable.
