Resumen:
Modified nucleosides and nucleotides are relevant organic molecules with antiviral and antitumoral applications.1 As an alternative to nucleoside chemical synthesis, the combined action of phosphopentomutase (PPM) and nucleoside phosphorylases (NPs) is an interesting biotechnological alterna-tive to conventional nucleoside preparation, when furanose 5-phosphates and purine or pyrimidine bases are used as substrates.2 Since immobiliza-tion of both enzymes is expected to enhance their set of potential applica-tions we decided to explore, and report here, the first PPM and PPM plus NPs immobilization, consisting in sol-gel based silica/chitosan composites with and without agar coating. When PPM and PNP were immobilized in the same sol-gel, no loss of activity was seen after the sixth reuse, and stor-age stability was extended to two months. Critical factors affecting the for-mation, reuse performance and pH dependence of the enzymatic composites are discussed. [1] E. Ichikawa, K. Kato. Curr. Med. Chem., 2001, 8, 385. [2] M.
