Resumen:
The cuticles of the arthropod group Collembola (springtails) are known to have hierarchically arranged surface patterns in a highly ordered texture. The ornamentation typically consists of nanoscaled primary granules and interconnecting ridges arranged in a rhombic or hexagonal pattern. At the same time, some species possess larger secondary granules and a tertiary structure consisting of bristles or scales. The present work explores RIMAPS performance as a technique to describe complex patterns and to semi-quantify how periodic the surface pattern is.
