Resumen:
Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have attracted much interest because of their wide applications in areas such as diagnostics and biomedicine therapies [1?3], drug transport [4], among others. In this work we studied optical, magnetic and structural characteristics of the colloids produced by ultrashort pulse laser ablation of an iron solid target immersed in ethanol and acetone. Colloidal suspensions were analyzed using different techniques such as Optical Extinction Spectroscopy (OES), Sample Vibration Magnetometry (VSM), micro?Raman spectroscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) to evaluate shape, size distribution, structure, composition and magnetization. OES reveals an absorption band in the UV region for both solvents. The micro?Raman spectroscopy shows that the colloids are heterogeneous in their composition, with hematite and magnetite nanoparticles in ethanol and acetone. Results on magnetic properties show that nanoparticles are in superparamagnetic state. We also show that, under certain experimental conditions, iron oxide nanoparticles of sub?micrometric size agglomerate following fractal patterns showing self-similar properties.
