Resumen:
The main mollusc bivalves species in the San Matias gulf (Rio Negro, Argentina) are mussel (Mytilus edulis platensis), tehuelche scallop (Chalmys tehuelcha) and puelche oyster (Ostrea puelchana). A brief review about these species, their biology, exploitation and culture feasibility, is provided. The purple clam, Amiantis purpurata is a relatively unexploited resource of the Northpatagonian shore. This clam is common between the mid and sublittoral level of sandy beaches. Near San Antonio Bay, where they form a dense-packed bed, a study about their importance as resource and feasibility to export was carried out. The clam distribution on the shore, density, mean shell length, weight-length relationship, condition index and survivorship at freight condition is provided.
