Resumen:
Argentine exportation of fresh fish products (iced, whole or evicered) has been practiced during the last two decades. Results obtained from recent fishing surveys carried out in the Argentine Sea and the San Matías Gulf using hook gears, allowed us to state the bottom and midwater longlines have a promising potentiality of being applied in the future, addressing fresh iced fish export. Target species for hook gear include big fishes, as the Patagonian the Patagonian hake, Merluccius hubbsi, the sandperch, pseudopercis semifasciata and rockfish (Acanthistius brasilianus, For the last species, SMG`s catches ranged from 384,14 to 605.58 g/hook with bottom longline. M. hubssi catches averaged 241 g/hook (eviscerated weight). Expenses (including vessel cost . plant processing and freight to Europe) ranged from 3000 to 4200 U$S per ton of fish.
