Ir supported SBA-15 was studied in HDN of quinoline as a model nitrogen compound. The effect of the acidity on the reaction is also evaluated, for that reason a mesoporous SBA-15 material was modified with Ga and Al in order to generate an adequate environmental to enhance the dispersion, reducibility and nature of the iridium species responsible for the reaction. SBA-15 modified with iridium were prepared incorporating Ga or Al species into the framework by post-synthesis technique. The activity was improved when Si-SBA-15 support was modified with Ga and Al. Characterization of the catalysts were performed by XRD, N2 adsorption, XPS, H2 chemisorption, TPR, NMR and Py-FTIR. Dispersion and nature of the iridium species depended on the characteristics of the support. Ga-SBA-15 with 1 wt.% of iridium loading was the most active catalyst for HDN of quinoline. 85% of nitrogen elimination was attained at short time in mild conditions. The reusability of the catalysts present as potential catalysts for the HDN process.
