Varroa destructor is an ectoparasitic mite of the honeybee Apis mellifera and it is one of the principal causes of the loss of beehives observed worldwide. The phenomena of resistance developed by the mite to synthetic acaricides prompted the research for alternative controls. The major components of essential oils offer an interesting alternative to synthetic agents. The objective of this study was to evaluate the bioactivity of the mayor components from different essential oils over Varroa destructor and Apis mellifera.
