In the scope of the prevention programes for dengue,
it is important the elimination of possible breading places of Ae. aegypti
larvae.
In this study, the larvicidal effect of IGRs such as
diflubenzuron and pyriproxyfen on larvae III/ IV of the susceptible strain
CIPEIN of Ae aegypti was determined,
obtaining values of LC50 of 1.84 and 0.063 ppb respectively.
Experimental slow release granular formulations 0.1% of both larvicides showed 100 % larvae mortality at a concentration of 1
and 0.04 ppm respectively. A residual
efficacy assay was performed using 1.5 g
granules 0.1% a.i. in 15 lt water (1 ppm). Weekly the larvicidal effect
was determined on larvae III/IV. Novaluron 10% EC (OSCAR), pyriproxyfen 0.5%
granular (SUMILARV) and Temefos 1% sand granules (ABATE) were used as possitive
controls. It was found that the experimental formulation has a residual
activity over 3 months.
An EC 10 1 % formulation of cis-permethrin plus
pyriproxyfen is now being assayed as a ULV formulation on larvae and adults
mosquitoes, in a closed shed 420
m2 according to methodology described in our laboratory.
It is concluded that these new slow release
formulations, could result a good alternative with more favorable properties
than the larvicide temefos for mosquito larvae control.
