Resumen:
The high rhythm of economic growth experienced by Latin America during the new millennium has had a positive impact on labour market and social indicators. These improvements were, in the case of Argentina and Brazil, noteworthy because of the strong job creation and the reduction of unemployment, informality and inequality. The Argentine and Brazilian cases also stand out because the labour market performance in the 2000s was in stark contrast to that observed during the 1990. The objective of this study is to conduct an in-depth analysis of the dynamic aspects of the formalization processes and their interrelations with the evolution of income inequality in Argentina and Brazil during the last decade, based on a comparative analysis between the two countries. This comparison will allow establishing similarities and differences and will offer elements to evaluate hypothesis related to the factors that are potentially associated with these dynamics.
