Resumen:
In this talk we will present and discuss some nonlinear processes, based on the optical Kerr effect, whose dynamics are of interest as in most cases impair the performance of fiber-optic high-capacity communication systems. These very same processes, which are to be prevented in the aforementioned context, can be exploited to great advantage to generate coherent light in spectral domains of interest. In particular, we show an application to the generation of supercontinuum in the mid infrared, a case of singular interest as it allows producing short pulses in spectral bands that may not be easily addressable by other laser sources.
