Criteria for selecting text-books for universitary teaching

Recommendation of a textbook is a difficult decision that must consider simultaneously subject matter quality and tuning as far as its profitable price. Reading text book represents an obstacle for students, perhaps by lack of previous knowledge accompanied by an impoverishment of the natural language. Kind to this, we present a comparative study of five text books of habitual use in a fresh course of organic chemistry. An observation guide was employed for evaluation of syntactic aspects. Differences on performance on syntactic aspects were founded related with their cost. Errors existence make necessary to take precautions to warn to students. Planning of classes may consider the order of presentation of contents. Text comprehension requires wishes to learn, a so syntactic aspect analysis is the first step.
