Resumen:
Objective: To ascertain the assessment that older adults make about their personal wellbeing as an overall indictor of Quality of Life (QoL) and associated factors. Methods: Based on ELES database (The ELES Project 2011), the Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI) and relevant variables on QoL (personal, social and residential) were used. Results: The PWI reached a vaalue of 74.2%, a figure different from values found in previous studies. The highest rated domains were satisfaction with relationships, safety and community connectedness. The PWI was higher among married people, those with secondary-higher education, and non-manual workers. The PWI had a significant correlation with household economic perception, social network size, contact with relatives, activities related to the neighbourhood and the domestic environment, and associative participation. Number of facilities in the building and in the house, satisfaction with the way off life, housing, family and social networks, and the use of free time were correlated with PWI. Lower levels of depression, illness, loneliness and drug intake, and increased functional capacity were correlated with PWI. The results provide a basis for designing policies on active ageing to enhance Quality of Later Life.
