Resumen:
This presentation is aimed at analyzing the Qol of community dwellingand institutional elders in Spain and identifying the determinants of Qol. Three samples were analyzed: community dwelling (CDE, n=234) and institutional elders, cognitively intact (ICI, n=234) and with dementia (IwD, n=475). Assessments included: Barthel Index, Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI, not applicable to IwD), EQ-5D, depression and chronic medical conditions. Samples were composed mostly by women (>58%), with a mean age >72, and 3 or more medical conditions. EQ-5D-index was 0.81 for CDE; 0.57 for ICI; and 0.09 for IwD. EQ-5D-VAS was 66.34(CDE), 62.8 (ICI) and 50.3 (IwD). PWI values were 71.3 (CDE) and 71.7 (ICI). Barthel Index and health status were associated to EQ-5D, while EQ-5D-VAS, depression and the interaction age-institutionalization were associated to PWI. Functional and health status are among the main determinants of Qol in elders, regardless if they live in the community or long-term care.
