This work deals with the generation of nickel nanoparticles by femtosecond laser ablation in different media and the determination of structure, configuration and size using optical extinction spectroscopy (OES), AFM and TEM microscopy.The study of the experimental spectra is based on Mie theory, where appropriate size modifications on the experimental bulk dielectric function were considered. Experimental spectra were reproduced considering a size distribution of Ni bare core, hollow (air-Ni) and core-shell (Ni-NiO or NiO-Ni) structures Nps.In n-heptane and water media, shape and size distribution of Nps agrees with that derived from TEM and AFM analysis.
