The selection process of a potential site for near surface repositories of low and intermediate level waste (LILW) implies the acquisition of varied environmental data. In the case of disposal facilities in the vadose zone, information on soil types and soil properties is of high relevance to assess suitability of a site (IAEA, 2003-a; b). A summary of available information on soils and on the physical environment of some candidate areas in Argentina for hosting a new repository is presented here on.
