The paper aims to describe the professionalization process of sociology in Argentina during the last five decades. First, it presents some data about the volume of sociological labour market giving information on universities and graduates. Second, it provides a historical description of some failed attempts to create and develop professional organizations. Third, it discusses some precedents and information on the labour market situation of sociologists in Argentina. Finally, it presents some ideas on the pending agenda on the issue
