The CLSI has established a MIC breakpoint for susceptibility of ¡Â2 mg/ml for Candida spp. to all the echinocandin (EC) drugs. We studied a collection of 48 echinocandin resistant Candida albicans and C. glabrata to evaluate the ability of this breakpoint to undercover Fks1p and Fks2p mutants. The data presented here support validates the proposed susceptibility breakpoint for caspofungin for both species studied. A lower breakpoint may be more appropriate for Anidulafungin and Micafungin (> 0.25 mg/ml).
