Echinocandin resistance in Candida spp. has been linked with mutations in Fksp, the main component of the Beta1-3 glucan synthase complex. Three echinocandin resistant C. tropicalis strains were study genetically and biochemically. Mutations in the hot spot region of the Fks1p were found and linked with the resistance phenotype. This is the first report that study the echinocandin mechanism of resistance in C. tropicalis.
