Atomic Structure of Amorphous Al-Fe-Nb

Al-Fe-Nb samples were obtained in amorphous state by means of Melt Spinning. The samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer Specroscopy. The diffractograms show a strong pre-peak that reflect an strong chemical short range order. It is discussed in relation to the icosahedral structure. The crystallization of the alloys show unknown peaks in transitional step which can be indexed as an metastable icosahedral phase.
