Rapidly Solidified Al-based alloys can be obtained with several types of microstructures which combine amorphous, crystalline and quasicrystalline phases. Therefore, it is possible to obtain alloys with an excellent combination of properties, like high strength and toughness with good corrosion behaviour. Alloys with these characteristics have great potential for technological applications. Among these alloys nanoquasicrystalline Al-based alloys showing a Microstructure composed of quasi-spherical icosahedral quasicrystalline particles with sizes around 100 nm embedded in an FCC-Al matrix have demonstrated to have potential for different industrial applications. The phase transformation of the quasicrystalline particles were studied by in-situ TEM observation. Different types of quasicrystalline transformation processes, like dissolution and peritectoide transformation, were observed.
