Study of the transformations in rapidly solidified Al based alloys

Rapidly Solidified Al-based alloys can be obtained with several types of microstructures which combine amorphous, crystalline and quasicrystalline phases. Therefore, it is possible to obtain alloys with an excellent combination of properties, like high strength and toughness with good corrosion behaviour. Alloys with these characteristics have great potential for technological applications. A thorough analysis on the microstructure and stability at different temperatures on different rapidly solidified Al-based alloys obtained by melt spinning has been carried out and a comparison of properties and stability related to the different added elements has been drawn.
