Estimación del comportamiento de híbridos de maiz de acuerdo al origen y criterio de selección de las líneas parentales

The identification of inbred lines with superior yield performance in hybrids is of fundamental importance in maize breeding. The objective of this work was to compare the genetic merits of hybrids obtained by crossing inbred lines from different origins and selection criteria. Data of grain yield from unbalanced variety trials comprising 39 hybrids evaluated during four years was used. Restricted maximun likelihood was used to estimate the variance components and the random effects, the best linear unbiased predictors (BLUP) of the hybrids. Selection criteria was of no influence on the yield performance of hybrids.
