The
following paper examines the development of the National Association
of Self-managed Workers (ANTA in Spanish, used henceforth) within the
Workers? Central of Argentina (CTA). ANTA is an organization that
groups workers from different cooperatives, most of them originating
in the post-2001 economic crisis in Argentina, when many small and
medium size enterprises were recovered by the workers who began
production again. The paper analyzes the situation of its coming
about as an organization within a trade union (CTA) and the dynamics
of the relationship between both organizations. This relationship is
conceptualized as one of the fundamental elements that led to the
sustainability of the cooperatives. The paper also looks into the
complexities of the relationship, and the shortfalls in the
development of the cooperative movement when associated with trade
unions
