Resumen:
The molecular structure of the organic colorants used in development of dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCS) is a key component in order to obtain high energy conversion efficiency. At present continues to be of utmost importance the development of new organic compounds capable of generating photoinduced intramolecular charge transfer, and which in turn can be directionally deposited over the surface of the oxide semiconductor. In this presentation we show a strategy that proved to be effective in the design and synthesis of highly efficient organic sensitizers, consisting of chromophores linked by multidentate anchoring groups to the surface of the oxide semiconductor. Spiro compounds in which two identical or different π-conjugated systems are conneted by a common sp3-hybridized atom are actively investigated as organic molecular materials for optoelectronics due to their peculiar cross-shaped rigid structure. The occurrence of two perpendicularly-oriented molecular halves results in favorable properties, such as improved morphological stability in the solid state and reduced tendency to form aggregates thanks to the inhibition of intermolecular interactions. We have designed and investigated an unprecedented panchromatic spiro-configured Donor/Acceptor sensitizer, which proved to be a promising candidate for the realization of efficient solar energy conversion in DSSCs devices
