ISOTHERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF AUSTENITE IN ANSI/AWS

Solid phase transformations taking place in the ferritic weld metal deposited with a tubular wire of the metal-cored type were studied. The isothermal decomposition of austenite, its transformation products and transformation kinetics were analyzed. Isothermal heat treatments were conducted at different temperatures and holding times in order to study the evolution of such transformations using quantitative light microscopy and hardness determinations. Expressions of the sigmoidal type were found for the fraction of  transformation of the different microconstituents as a function of time and temperature.
