Resumen:
Alzheimer's disease is a neurological disorder that causes the death of nerve cells in the brain. This disease is the most common cause of mental deterioration in presenile and senile stages, tending to increase with age. Studies of Magnetic Resonance images allow early diagnosis of this disease. In patients with this pathology, these images show a decrease in brain size, especially around the temporal lobes and the hippocampus area. On the other hand, the sucal fissure and the lateral ventricles increase in size. The objective of this work is the segmentation of the lateral ventricles for subsequent measurement of the relative area increase compared with the relative decrease of the cerebral cortex. The process used is the application of a family of linear directional morphological operators and the later application of a Mathematical Morphology reconstruction.
