The continuous growth of the wind power generation presents problems to the operation of power systems. Due to the development of energy storage systems (ESS) with better performance, it is possible to use the energy storage as a reserve to regulate variations of power generation and demand. Those aspects are analyzed in the present paper. The principal characteristics of the ESS are also studied.
