Resumen:
The results of model calculations for the interaction of particleswith non-planar interfaces during solidification are presented. Themodel is based on finite element methods for the calculation ofthe shape of the solidifying interface which is modified by thepresence of a solid particle, and for the drag forces resulting onthe particle for the geometrical configuration of the systemparticle-melt-solid. The drag force on the particle is calculated fordifferent conditions of steady pushing by the solid. The results arecompared with the corresponding drag force for a planar interfaceand a particle at the same separation. Thermal conditions resultingin concave and convex interface shapes are considered. Theresults show that a concave interface generate higher drag forcesthan a planar interface and the opposite for a concave shape. Themagnitude of the force could differ in as much as one order ofmagnitude.
