Resumen:
The feasibility for improving the density and magnetic performance of Fe by means of addition of Ferro-P alloyed powder is studied. The idea pretends to promote the liquid phase formation at relatively low sintering temperatures (1050 and 1120 C), close to eutectic temperature of Fe-P binary system. This objective starts with the mixture of Fe (particle size smaller than 100 µm) with Ferro-P up to 15 % (in wt) (particle size smaller than 27 µm). The mixtures are moulded by: uni-axial pressing (at 700 MPa) and sintered under dry hydrogen flux. The reached densities are close to 90 % of full density Fe. The microstructure characterization, the resulting grain and inter-granular phase distribution are analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, respectively. Also, the DC hysteresis loops of all materials are analyzed as function of the reached densities. The preliminary results show the viability of liquid phase sintering for improvement of Fe magnetic performance.
