Wave energy has been gaining increasing attention as a sustainable and renewable source of electricity. Oscillating Arm-Float Wave Energy Converters (OAF-WECs) are a promising technology designed to harness the kinetic energy of ocean waves. This work provides an overview of several design challenges associated with OAF-WECs. This work discusses the fundamental principles of OAF-WEC operation, highlighting the unique characteristics of this technology. Key design challenges regarding wave climate and power take-off systems are analyzed. Additionally, the paper explores recent advancements and innovative solutions aimed at addressing these challenges. Several question statements are provided to guide future research and development efforts. The insights presented in this paper contribute to ongoing effort to establish wave energy a viable and sustainable component of the renewable energy landscape.
