Resumen:
The Andean Margin hosts multiple regions of flat slab subduction making it anideal location to study the dynamics of these environments. This researchfocused on the Pampean flat slab, that extends from central Chile to Argentinafor~300 km before steeply descending into the mantle. This study wasmotivated by faster than expected apparent P and S wavespeeds from events inthe flat slab beneath Argentina to stations in Chile. This, in conjunction with abending of the flat slab led to a hypothesis that a high-density lithospheric rootis present beneath the high Andes.
