Resumen:
The primary focus of this research is on manufacturing activated carbon from peanut casings and utilizing it in biofuel production. We conducted experimental trials at various stages—carbonization and activation—to enhance the final product´s BET surface area and porosity. The most optimal material yielded an area of 1400 m2/gm. We performed co-impregnation with Ir Ni to create active sites conducive to the 5-HMF HDO reaction. Using the IrNi bimetallic catalyst on biochar from peanut shells, we achieved a remarkable 96% yield.
