Resumen:
The growing use of rotating electricalmachines in our electrified and sustainable world makes crucial their designprocess, for which torque calculation is a key step. The well-known Maxwellstress tensor method can determine this quantity based on flux density fields obtainedthrough finite element analysis, but its accuracy relies heavily on the meshand leads to potential inaccuracies. To address this issue, Arkkio formulated aneasy-to-implement approach that mitigates numerical noise. This popular method, formulated almost four decades ago, is limited to traditional radial-fluxmachines. With advancements in materials science, axial-flux motors andgenerators have gained traction for their improved power density and efficiency. To aid the design of these devices, we present an easy-to-implement formulationfor accurately calculating axial torque in axial-flux machines, akin toArkkio’s method for radial-flux machines.
