Analysis of disc instabilities in barred galaxies using the TNG50 simulation

This study aims to understand the formation of bars in galaxies using the TNG50 simulation (Nelsonet al. 2019; Pillepich et al. 2019). Bars are commonly observed structures in disc galaxies, but thefactors determining their presence or absence are still debated. By analyzing the TNG50 simulationdata, we calculate the strength and formation time of bars in galaxies and investigate the role ofexternal processes, such as interactions and mergers, in their formation. Additionally, we evaluate theeffectiveness of various instability criteria in predicting bar formation.
