Resumen:
This work addresses the bio-waste valorization approach for the development of a novel carbonaceous nanomaterial to be used in the adsorption of hydrogen as an alternative in the use of green hydrogen. In this research, activated carbons were synthesized using peanut shells and different synthesis conditions. To obtain these carbonaceous materials, a chemical activation was performed using phosphoric acid as activated agent. All the materials obtained have a high specific surface and meso- and microporosity. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), elemental analysis (EDX) and Raman spectroscopy analyses were performed to characterize these materials. The activated carbon with the best structure and texture, the adsorption of hydrogen and the effects on their microporosity were studied.Adsorption increases practically linearly with respect to the specific surface area of activated carbons, and a synergy can be observed between mesopores and micropores since increasing both microporosity and mesoporosity increases hydrogen storage. The best support obtained presents a BET area of 1350 m2 / g. Said material significantly improved H2 storage behavior compared to CMK-3 type nanostructured carbon (2.8% by weight at -196,15 oC and 10 bar). The synthesized material shows promise in absorbing hydrogen by weak binding forces (physisorption).
