Resumen:
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is gender-dependent in humans and rodents with a high prevalence in males. However, development of HCC in males and females is not completely studied. Therefore, the aim of this work was to characterize the differences between females and males C3H mice regarding their sensitivity to diethylnitrosamine (DEN) in HCC development. DEN was injected (10 mg/kg, i.p.) at 2 weeks old. Mice were euthanized 210 and 300 days after DEN administration. Liver sections were analyzed by histopathology and immunohistochemistry, and cell suspensions by flow cytometry. Liver tumors arose in 100% of males and 62.5% of females. Number of tumor foci was significantly higher in males (p
