Resumen:
KeynoteWater is an extremely scarse resource and much work has been devoted to modelling of waterbodies with different objectives and approaches. The identification of meteorological, hydrological and ecological components and driving forces behind problems such aseutrophication, floods and salinisation in water bodies, as well as the integration withagricultural and livestock activities constitutes a challenging problem towards achievingsustainability goals and circular economy. In this work, we discuss the use of different Process Systems Engineering approaches to addressthe control of algal blooms in continental water bodies as well as the planning of watermanagement within integrated water, agricultural and livestock systems.Main proposed techniques involve the formulation of ecohydrological and biogeochemicalmodels, carbon capture models, and plant growth and water requirement models, representedby differential algebraic equation systems as part of optimal control problems. Proposedmethods provide sustainable solutions within the framework of a circular economy.
