scRNA-seq data allows pseudo-temporal ordering of individual cells along a differentiation process. This work introduces a novel tool for quantifying pluripotency from scRNA-seq data to identify stem cells or progenitors, often necessary as prior information when performing trajectory inference. The approach utilizes the protein-protein interaction network associated with the cell differentiation process and the gene expression matrix to calculate a parameter that reflects the differentiation network´s activity for each cell. The performance of the algorithm is benchmarked using four healthy human scRNA-seq datasets (breast, colon, bone marrow and lung) against two existing methods.
