Resumen:
The inference of the history of geographic ranges across a phylogeny has several difficulties: the size and shape of the geographic ranges is highly variable, producing an extremely large number of states; cladogenetic biogeographic events produce range inheritance scenarios that are not compatible with traditional character optimization; the Earth is spherical, then using traditional Euclidean geometry produce distorted measures at large scale; plate tectonics and other geological process has changed the location and shape of the Earth landmasses at different times. Here I propose an approximate method based on the MonteCarlo integration to infer the history of the ancestral ranges taken into account the geographic ranges of the terminals as well as different cladogenetic biogeographic events. The method is also implemented using spherical geometry, and a paleogeographic reconstruction model to take into account the movement of continents, as well as is changes in geography.
