The development of an aptasensor with an innovative and automated readout is reported. The sensing mechanism takes advantage of the strong correlation observed between the alteration of the coffee ring effect and the analyte concentration. The assay was implemented on purpose-built cards. A smartphone-coupled Python script was programmed for automated image processing, data management and communication.
