Resumen:
Until our research, no direct evidence of domestic plants has been found in the archaeological record of the Delta. The Paraná River stretches four thousand kilometers along La Plata Basin. Its Delta is a wide alluvial floodplain with pockets of subtropical forest and bordered by the grasslands of the Pampas plain. Our purpose today is to discuss our results of phytolith analysis of two archaeological sites located in the Delta of the Paraná River in Argentina. We have detected evidence of diverse nature that allow us to add signal in relation to horticultural processes: Ethnohistorical information (i.e. Ramírez [1528] 2007; Santa Cruz [1540] 1918; Fernández de Oviedo y Valdés [1547] 1851), comparison with ethnographic societies with mixed economies (Ahedo et al. 2021), discriminant function to find phytoliths assignable to maize, burnt lens levels, water level and silica content organic matter levels, water level and silica content.
